"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16
Welcome to Operation Italy
We are a Christ-centered community, building healthy congregation, committed to reaching our city, region, and country. Our mission is to connect with people and lead them into an authentic and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ by creating environments where people are equipped and encouraged to point up, point in, and point out.
I remember when my dad first talked to us about his vision back in the early ‘80s, where he saw a people, his own countrymen, lost in a dying world and starving for the truth that we know only the blood of Jesus can provide. It would require uprooting a large family that had finally settled into the American lifestyle. Operation Italy was started, and this family of seven ventured out to bring the Gospel of Christ to Italy.
There was a time when this vision wasn’t so clear to Abel. He was once ashamed of the church and fought with his father many a Sunday morning. He thought he could escape his destiny and traveled the world, hoping to avoid God’s reach. He first ventured to Germany, across the Atlantic and Pacific to Australia, and then to the United States, yet he soon realized that he could not escape the path God had laid for him. In the vision, he saw a hand swoosh passed his ear and point at a map. It was the hand of God, and He said, “There…I want you to return to where you were ashamed and embarrassed by me.”
Italy is known to be a predominately Christian country; however, most people do not know that Jesus serves as the path to God and redemption. Only by His grace can we be saved. Italians are also a proud people, and many rejected the Word, but seeds were sown, and over time those seeds became plants that still thrive to this day.
Abel’s wife, Anna, played her part in this ministry. She was the welcoming committee to those who entered the church and to all those churches who visited Italy during my father’s ministry. She provided love and warmth not only with her words but also with her incredible cooking. She would be up before the sun rose and still in the kitchen well after the sunset, making breakfast, lunch and dinner for groups of people anywhere from 8 to 20 at a time. While Abel spoke about the love of Christ, my mom exhibited that love with her actions.
November 19th will be two years since Abel passed away. We lost a true man of God and a powerful voice for the Gospel, and as difficult as this was for the church community, it was even more difficult for Anna. These two years have been challenging for her, both emotionally and financially. We continue to provide her with the emotional support she desperately needs; however, things have not been ideal financially. We thank those who have supported her during these past two years – you have been a huge blessing – but we ask that those who have supported Abel and his ministry search your heart as this anniversary nears. There is no retirement fund to support Anna as she ages; your financial support would be greatly appreciated.
We thank you in advance for your prays and look forward to hearing from you shortly.
In Christ,
